In a decisive move, the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) has greenlit the appointment of fresh leadership for Polaris, Union, and Keystone banks, marking a significant shift in the governance of these financial institutions.
This strategic decision follows the recent dissolution of the board of directors overseeing the operations of the deposit money banks, as disclosed by the CBN acting Director of Corporate Communications, Sidi Hakama, in a statement released on Thursday morning.
Effective immediately, the appointments bring a wave of change to the banking sector. Notably, Yetunde Oni, who served as the first female CEO of Standard Chartered Bank in Sierra Leone, assumes the role of Chief Executive Officer at Union Bank. Joining her is Mannir Ubali Ringim, appointed as the Executive Director for this tier-2 bank.
At Keystone Bank, Hassan Imam takes the helm as the Chief Executive Officer, and Chioma Mang secures the position of Executive Director.
Polaris Bank sees Lawal Mudathir Omokayode Akintola stepping into the role of Chief Executive Officer, while Chris Ofikulu assumes the responsibilities of Executive Director.

The CBN statement underlined the immediacy of these appointments, stating, “Following the dissolution of the Board and Management of Union Bank, Keystone Bank, and Polaris Bank on Wednesday, January 10, the CBN has appointed new executives to oversee the affairs of the banks.”
